This article will deal with some causes for an itchy scalp even after shampooing. As discussed in a previous article in this series we have already ruled out residue, dirt and oils on the scalp being the culprit for an itchy scalp.
We will also assume that your scalp was fine until you did one of the following things to your hair :
1. Washing your hair with a shampoo that is too harsh for your skin type.
2. Shampooing too often. Many cases of dry, itchy scalp can be blamed on over zealous shampooing. Washing too often can deplete your scalp’s natural oil balance. Without a natural oil balance your scalp may feel dry and tight. This can lead to an itchy scalp.
3. Recently had a chemical relaxer, permanent hair color or other chemical service. The active ingredients in these common chemical services are highly likely to cause sensitivity if used improperly or after prolonged contact on the scalp. Maybe you notice your scalp tends to be itchy after a chemical service that irritated your scalp.
Here’s what I recommend:
When you shampoo frequently only gentle cleansing the hair is necessary to keep the hair and scalp healthy. If you shampoo frequently, more than once a week, using a sulfate-free shampoo would be a good choice. Sulfate-free shampoos do not contain the typical detergents or sudsing agents that remove all oils from the hair.
Apply a soothing leave -in scalp treatment that doesn’t leave a heavy residue on the scalp. A good choice is Jane Carter Solution Scalp Nourishing Serum which contains essential oils that soothe and restore the scalp.
